Client: Rockwell Automation, GSK, Irvine, Scotland
Project: New Solvent Recovery Modules
Sector: Modular Fabrication / Pharmaceutical
Contract Value: €750,000
Contract Duration: Three Months

The Structural Steel, Mechanical and Electrical scopes for this project were completed in MSL’s Fabrication Facility in Watergrasshill, Cork. 7 modules were fabricated and assembled.

5 process modules

  • 12m x 4.5m x 4.5m weighing 26tonne
  • 12m x 4.5m x 4.5m weighing 15tonne
  • 12m x 4.5m x 4.5m weighing 15tonne
  • 6m x 4.5m x 4.5m weighing 12 tonne
  • 4m x 4.5m x 4.5m weighing 7 tonne

And 2 stairs modules: 13m x 3.5m x 3.5m each, weighing 10 tonne each.

The structural steel for each module was assembled within the MSL workshop, and each process module was joined together on their sides to simulate the final site installation. All process equipment was installed into the 3 main process modules. 1200m of stainless and carbon steel pipe were pre-fabricated, installed and pressure tested within the 3 main module structures. Equipment and piping was insulated as required. Primary and secondary containment, JB boxes and instrument tubing was installed within the 3 main module structures.

Client FAT test was performed on all process modules in MSL workshop prior to shipping.

All 7 modules were shipped to GSK Irvine in Scotland and installed on site by MSL. The solvent recovery tower was last installed which was 25m long and weighed 30tonne. The largest crane used during the lifting operation was a 500t crane. All interconnecting pipework and steel was installed post module installations.
