Balance of Plant Piping in the “Whitegate IPP 450MW Combined Cycle Power Plant”

Project Description: MSL were appointed contractor for the Whitegate IPP 450MW Combined Cycle Power Plant.
Contract Value: Approximately 8.5 Million Euro
Contract Duration: 15 Months

The Key Features of the Project Included:

Workshop Fabrication:
A total of 950 isometrics were logged, engineered, priority sequenced, fabricated, NDT & PED approved and transported to site over a 26 week fabrication period. The fabrication element consisted primarily of 40,000 weld inches comprising Carbon Steel, Stainless Steel, Chrome / Alloy Steel and Jacketed Piping Systems.
A total of 100 tonnes of secondary steel pipe supports were also fabricated for the project. Workshop manpower averaged 25 for the fabrication period. In addition, MSL were responsible for stocking in excess of 16,000 metres of pipe-work and fittings at its workshop facility.

Site Works:
The mechanical scope of work included the installation and supporting of 16,000 metres of pipe-work and 25,000 weld inches on various piping systems including, Steam, Fuel Oil, Condensate, Fuel Gas and Demin Water.
The mechanical scope also provided for the erection of the BOP Equipment and responsibility for the management and co-ordination of associated sub-contracts, including, Scaffolding, Painting, NDT and Post Weld Heat Treatment.

On-Site Project Management:
Our site management team included Project Manager, Construction Manager, Safety Manager & Officers, Quality Manager, Quality / Mechanical / Equipment / Field Engineers, Weld Inspectors, Testing Supervisors, Support Supervisors.

Pipe Meterage: In excess of 16,000 metres of pipe-work was installed, supported and tested.

Direct Site Labour Hours: In excess of 110,000 direct labour hours were expended on the project.
